Custom Spur Gear Manufacturing
Jinhua Machinery supports custom spur gears for drawing-based industrial and transmission projects. Spur gears use straight teeth to transmit rotary motion between parallel shafts. Although the basic geometry is familiar, successful production depends on coordinating the tooth data, bore and hub features, datums, material condition, heat treatment and inspection method shown on the customer drawing.
Engineering information reviewed before quotation
- Material: Grade, delivery condition and governing material standard.
- Gear geometry: Module or diametral pitch, pressure angle, tooth count, helix angle if any, profile modification and required quality grade.
- Part geometry: Bore, hub, keyway, shoulders, mounting holes, faces and datum structure.
- Process requirements: Blank type, machining, gear cutting, heat treatment, finishing and any protected surfaces.
- Inspection: Gear measurement, runout, bore and face checks, sampling level and required reports.
Manufacturing process planning
The process plan is created after the released 2D drawing and available 3D model are reviewed. Depending on the specification, the route can include preparation of the required blank, turning of the bore and hub features, gear cutting, specified heat treatment and finish operations. Jinhua Machinery does not apply one standard route to every spur gear; material, geometry, hardness, quality grade and annual volume determine the appropriate sequence and inspection points.
Materials and heat treatment
Material and heat treatment must be taken from the customer specification. The inquiry should state the material grade, standard, initial condition, required hardness, case or through-hardening requirement where applicable, and any surface or coating requirement. If these values are not yet released, they should be identified as design inputs still requiring customer confirmation rather than assumed during quotation.
Gear inspection and quality records
Inspection planning can cover tooth geometry, specified gear quality, bore size, runout, tooth-to-datum relationship, face dimensions, surface condition and hardness where required. The customer should identify the applicable gear standard, measurement method, sampling frequency and required documentation. See our quality inspection and process-control approach for the wider production workflow.
Applications
Drawing-based spur gear programs can be reviewed for automotive, e-bike, bicycle, electric motor, machinery, home-appliance and industrial equipment assemblies. Final suitability depends on the customer’s torque, speed, duty cycle, lubrication, noise, mating-gear and service-life requirements.
